Sometimes I miss the seventies terribly. I remember seeing Patti Smith on Saturday Night Live (up way past my bedtime; I’m not *that* old) and thinking that she was the very definition of cool. She always seemed completely in command, yet about to fall apart. Perfect.

For years, I’ve tried to put my finger on exactly what it is about Smith I feel I can relate to. You just nailed it.
