Being in Times Square is like getting gang-raped by capitalism.
That is all.
Well said. I was in New York over the holidays and found it to be completely overwhelming. Living there must be quite an adjustment! How are you managing?
It’s dizzying. The last time I was there (Christmas 2004) they were announcing the horrendous death total resulting from the massive tsunami in east asia on a ticker tape, and it seemed like an afterthought in that digitized LED funhouse. Still, the memory and impression remain. PTSD from NYC.
Heather: Times Square aside, I love it here and always have. If I ever make a fortune in international finance, I just might move here permanently.
Sparky: There is absolutely something hallucinatory about it, and almost beyond the comprehension of this Canadian. Did you feel like you needed to bathe afterward?
No. It’s all so clean and sharp — airbrushed and simulated and blinky, winking in and out of the “real” like a French philosopher being interviewed by another French philosopher, both knowing they can return to the warm quiet comfort of home. Montreal, in cold, stark, slutty contrast, always makes me want to bathe…
Your pics. these days are inspired, BTW. In-spired.
Merci bien. Tell Montreal I’ll be home soon…
